Professional ethics
Professional social welfare work emphasizes the obligation to take the side of disadvantaged groups and to alleviate the suffering of people who live in difficult circumstances. The core task is to restore the client's resources even when they seem lost or exhausted. It is the societal duty of social welfare professionals to promote the interests of less-valued, silenced people in the implementation of social policy and to make decision-makers aware of unfair life situations.
In professional social welfare work, professional ethics is present in everyday choices that are sometimes difficult to make. Professional social welfare work is regulated by legislation, but what is legal is not necessarily ethical, and legality does not always guarantee justice. Direct solutions to the awkward problems present in everyday work with human relationships are seldom found in legislation. Professional ethics does, however, guide choices in all social welfare work.
